Lesson Programming

Lessons are available for riders of all ages and levels of expertise. Derbyshire is proud to be home to a wonderful string  of healthy, happy horses who love their jobs! We offer private, semi private ( 2-3 riders) or group lessons with a flexible daytime, evening and weekend schedule.

About Us

Already Camp Dennison residents, Sarah and Jamie took the leap from private barn owners and purchased Derbyshire in December of 2023. They are delighted to work wonderful trainers and horse owners to assure that Derbyshire Stables offers the opportunity and the welcoming and safe  environment to connect humans and horses across all disciplines and demographics for years to come.

Sarah Close has been riding horses as long as she can remember. Growing up, every day she could talk her parents into taking her to the barn – that is where you would find her – most certainly a “barn rat”. Sarah showed American Saddlebreds on the local show circuit through middle and high school before heading off to college. Upon graduating, one of her first tasks after becoming gainfully employed was to find her way back to the barn. She was lucky enough to find a beautiful mare and a cooperative owner who allowed her to make payments on a horse she otherwise couldn’t afford – and has never again had a day without a horse in her life.

Jamie Hurtubise was introduced to horses as a driver of tractor, fixer of fences, and thrower of hay. After Sarah and Jamie combined their families in 2020, It didn’t take long for him to catch the bug himself and now finds himself astride a beautiful Frisian, Ragnar.

Sarah and Jamie live adjacent to the farm and together have four daughters Amelia, CeCe, Rylie, Rowan, seven dogs, five horses and three cats- all of whom you are likely to meet at the barn from time to time.
